Serving the entire Anchor Bay community of Southeast Michigan, the Chesterfield Township Library Endowment Fund was established to improve lives and to help sustain library service to the community in good times and bad. The Chesterfield Township Library is committed to life-long literacy. We are the university for all walks of life.
HISTORY
Originally established in 1995 as the Chesterfield Library Endowment Foundation, funds were raised to create a permanent endowment to aid the Chesterfield Township Library in activities not supported by tax dollars. Since 2011, these funds have been administered by the Anchor Bay Community Foundation through the establishment of the Chesterfield Township Library Endowment Fund.

Library education programs prepare students for success. The Chesterfield Township Library understands the importance of reading aloud to children. Not only does this allow parent and child to bond together in a special way, reading aloud together gives a child the gift of vocabulary. By hearing new words, children grow their vocabulary even before they can read independently. When young children develop vocabulary they are prepared for Kindergarten. Strengthening reading skills means students are then prepared for 3rd Grade, prepared for Middle School, prepared for High School, prepared for College, and ultimately, students are prepared for the work force.
1000 Books Before Kindergarten
1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a free program offered at the Chesterfield Township Library that encourages parents to read 1000 books with their child before he or she enters school, a goal experts say children need to help them learn to read for themselves. Once registered, children receive a log book to record titles, and earn prizes for every 100 books read, moving their name marker up the wall of fame as they progress. The Library’s 1000 Books before Kindergarten program is funded through a grant provided by the Anchor Bay Community Foundation. Research has proven that children with whom parents or caregivers have read 1000 books aloud before they start Kindergarten are prepared to succeed.
Summer Enrichment Program
The Summer Enrichment Program is a free program offered at the Chesterfield Township Library that strengthens children’s and teen’s reading and learning skills to build life-long reading habits, retain skills developed during the school year, and includes opportunities for independent reading, arts and craft activities, and exciting theme-related programs. Summer Enrichment Programs provide engagement and fun for families sharing learning together. In addition, public library programs can help meet the personal and social needs of youth and help them feel safe, cared for, useful, and valued.
Large Print Books
Because we are committed to life-long learning and recreational reading, the Chesterfield Township Library offers an extensive collection of Large Print books for folks who find regular type more difficult to read.
Employment Skills
The Chesterfield Township Library provides adults with many opportunities to enhance their skills for the modern workplace by attending classes specifically designed for job-seeking adults.
